Apple Vs. Android.

“I think that the debate will go on for a long time. My take is that both will co-exist for a long long time and flourish and each will push the other to continue to innovate. They will dominate in different markets with Android becoming much bigger in market share as the ecosystem is bigger and we will see a lot of devices around it (some non phone devices as well).

Apple will never come-out with a cheap <$50 phone as in Steve’s words “it is not our DNA”. Android will eventually spread to all spectrum of devices from low end to high end . All Asian phone makers will flood market with cheap low to medium end devices which will fill the coffers of these companies.

I also believe that iPhone will continue to out-perform High end Android Phones inspite of huge innovation in Adroid platform because
a) Design by Democracy (read compromise) will never produce sexy devices like iPhone. IPhone will continue to wow and command premium. Apple brand is very strong on usability and sexyness.
b) Apple has the advantage of knowing Android Roadmaps and beat it by being ahead of innovation

Nokia plays in entire spectrum and it is interesting to watch what strategy it uses to counter the dual challenge of iPhone and Android which has potential to threaten their entire spectrum of operations. But do not count out Nokia. they will surprise.

There will be pressure to enhance android to do many more things that it was initially designed for but that it how it is. Android will now determine its own destiny beyond what it was originally designed for.

There is no doubt it will be game changer. The key is who all will survive. Android will be to PDA phones what Windows was to PC. Here in this case the opportunity is much bigger and there are many non Nokia guys ready to take advantage of Android.”
